The Houston Latino Film Festival presents “The Art and Craft of Directing with Joel Novoa” To capture a perfect moment on film, there must be an extraordinary synergy between director, camera and subject. Director Joel Novoa (CW’s Arrow and God’s Slave) will dive into the process communicating one’s creative vision amongst collaborators. This hands on workshop is an excellent opportunity for filmmakers to take their work to the next level by becoming a more effective content creator on set.
Joel is an accomplished Television Director and Producer. He has recently directed for the television hit series, ARROW, for Warner Brothers and has a contract with MGM as a co-executive producer. MGM Television is developing a television series based on Richard Dominguez’s Latino comic book series, EL GATO NEGRO, starring Diego Boneta which Joel Novoa will executive produce.
Joel was born in New York, but grew up in Caracas, Venezuela. He holds a Law Degree and a MFA in Directing from American Film Institute. He is the recipient of the prestigious Franklin J. Schaffner Fellow Award 2012 for his contributions as a director, the Caucus Foundation Award 2012 and the Deluxe merit for best director 2011. Joel’s slate in film includes directing GOD ́S SLAVE. Since its tour of the festival circuit, the film has won 18 international awards and has been included in more than 75 festival official selections. The film received worldwide theatrical release and a Netflix deal. Novoa's projects include, “I.D2: Shadwell Army”, which premiered in 25 screens across U.K and in 2016, “Day of Reckoning” for Universal, being one of the year ́s top gross films for Syfy Channel.
