You’ve Succeeded: The Life & Times of Dimas Garza

Dimas Garza was born and raised in the heart of San Antonio’s Westside and attended Lanier High School where he first turned his english class poem writing skills into song writing. In 1958 he recorded his first major song with the vocal group The Kool-Dips entitled, “I’m Trying To Forget,” by 1959 he had joined The Lyrics and their release of , “Oh Please Love Me” and “The Girl I Love” on the local Harlem label had been picked up nationally by Coral Records.

In 1961 Dimas joined the Dell-Tones as their lead vocalist and recorded the classic “Don’t Leave Me Baby” as well as recording several spanish compositions. The Royal Jesters called in 1962 and Garza joined the group as their lead singer.

The group recorded several Dimas Garza classics including “Love Me” and “I Want To Be Loved”. 1964 introduced Garza’s career as a solo artist and in 1968 he recorded “You’ve Succeeded” with The Royal Jesters providing background vocals.
