Reading: The Book of Wanderers by Reyes Ramirez

Reyes Ramirez’s dynamic short story collection follows new lineages of Mexican and Salvadoran diasporas traversing life in Houston, across borders, and even on Mars. The Book of Wanderers explores Houston, a Gulf Coast metropolis that incorporates Southern, Western, and Southwestern identities near the borderlands with a connection to the cosmos.

About Reyes Ramirez

Reyes Ramirez is a Houstonian, writer, educator, curator, & organizer of Mexican & Salvadoran descent. He is the author of the The Book of Wanderers with University of Arizona’s Camino del Sol series. Reyes won the 2019 YES Contemporary Art Writer’s Grant, 2017 Blue Mesa Review Nonfiction Contest, 2014 riverSedge Poetry Prize & has poems, stories, essays, & reviews in: Indiana Review, Speculative Fiction for Dreamers: A Latinx Anthology, Cosmonauts Avenue, december magazine, Arteinformado, Texas Review, Houston Noir, Gulf Coast
Journal, Acentos Review, Cimarron Review, & elsewhere. He is a 2020 CantoMundo Fellow, 2021 Interchange Artist Grant Fellow, 2022 Crosstown Arts Writer in Residence, & received grants from Houston Arts Alliance, Poets & Writers, & Warhol Foundation’s Idea Fund.
