Charro & Steed (A Story of Mexican Rodeo)

Synopsis

The Mexican Rodeo, or “Charreria” is a cultural tradition that beautifully represents the history and heritage of Mexico. In this documentary short film, we take a look at the impact it has as it begins to make its way more and more into the United States.

About the Director

Matthew Wagner is a Documentary Filmmaker based in Michigan who has a passion for documenting unique subcultures all across the United States.

Synopsis

Maria Luisa is ready to escape immigration limbo, but when her green card interview takes an unexpected turn, she faces the anxiety of losing the life she had planned.

About the Director

Born in Mexico and emigrated to the US during his childhood, Luis Fernando Puente studied Media Arts at Brigham Young University. His recent work includes La luna y el colibrí, which participated in numerous film festivals and won multiple awards including the Mesquite Award for Best Texas Short Film at Cine Festival in San Antonio, Texas.

Synopsis

It’s the first day of school at Buena Ventura High School in Texas, 1980. Georgia Walker is a literature teacher who is willing to fight to get her family and her job back even if it comes to the ultimate sacrifice… her life.

On his first day of work as a miner, Martin, a cocky teenager, will learn the importance of rituals and respect for ancestors.

About the Director

Juan J Medina 19 November 1974, Guadalajara Jalisco México, graduated from the school of plastic arts of the UDG. Thanks to the co-direction of the “The Eighth Day, Creation” he has achieved various awards at festivals inside and outside the country. He has also participated in a dozen productions as co-animator and art director. He wrote and directed his second short film “Cages” (2009) with which he won various international festivals. Winner of 4 Arieles from the Mexican Academy of Arts and Film Sciences, from 2013 to 2015 member of the National System of Creators of Art. In 2015 he directed the short film “ZIMBO” with which he has participated in more than 50 festivals, winning ten of these. Animation direction and editing of the feature film “Salma´s Big Wish” which he co-wrote in 2012. He produced and directed the short film “Tío” in 2021, and developed his debut “Niño Carbón”.


Mapimí

Synopsis

A nomadic man returns to a village seeking to pay tribute to an old friend. Along the way, he makes a stop at a saloon, where he confronts a group of outlaws, one of whom has a connection to his past. The tension between the two men is inevitable and
rises to the point that they use a duel to determine the fate of both.

About the Director

Rodrigo Gallegos is Mexican filmmaker from Saltillo, Coahuila. Rodrigo Gallegos wrote and directed the Mapimí. He currently studies filmmaking in his hometown.
